Linguistic Analysis Software: What is it used for?
It is well known that the amount of text-based information that we deal with on a daily basis is greater than what any individual can manage manually. How can a user focus in on the articles, tweets or comments that are important for their business without wasting a tremendous amount of time? Linguistic analysis software can help.
Linguistic analysis software is a tool that enhances the comprehension of information present in documents, or across a set of documents. However, not all linguistic software is created equally.
Some linguistic analysis software tools use an automatic mathematical or statistical approach to analyze and extract relations that occur in a set of documents and the words they contain. The idea is that the distribution and frequency of relevant terms in documents that cover a specific topic is similar and that the meaning of a specific word can be inferred by the above assumption. At first glance, these methods are helpful for comparing documents and revealing similarities between words (as with synonyms). They are also used for document categorization.
But what if you want to go a bit deeper and really understand what a document is about and the most relevant elements or relationships in a document? In this case, a method that replicates, or tries to replicate, human understanding wouldnaturally be preferrable over one that depends on word frequency.
This is where semantic technology comes into play.
A linguistic analysis software based on semantics focuses on the meaning of words and how they are perceived as a human being. This method includes understanding the context in which the words appear.
These are the premises that have guided us here at Expert System. Our linguistic analysis software, Cogito, which is able to read and understand documents like people do, is the key to moving linguistic analysis to another level. At this level, technology empowers the user, providing all of the data and insight needed in a way that truly helps the user get the most out of them.
For this reason, connecting people to the right information is at the core of a linguistic analysis software, and that’s why we say: “Search is an activity and find is a result”.
